Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman clarified during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is attempting, by attacking Qatar, to manipulate public opinion and mislead it with false facts.
He added that Netanyahu "blames others instead of looking at his own behavior and that of his government," and he tries to hold others responsible for what he himself is doing.
He reiterated his country's condemnation of the Israeli attack that targeted Doha last year, saying: "We were subjected to an attack by Israel while we were pushing for the Trump proposal, which was unacceptable and condemned."
In parallel, he clarified that targeting mediators represents a "dangerous precedent that has not occurred throughout wars in history," considering that Netanyahu has "crossed the red line" by targeting Qatar, as he has previously crossed other lines.
In response to Netanyahu's allegations, he noted that governments from various political orientations, whether Democrats and Republicans or Labour and Conservatives, have been inviting and encouraging Qatar to cooperate with academic circles in their countries for the past 30 years, with the aim of benefiting from expertise and knowledge and employing them in the liquefied natural gas sector and the country's development process.
During the interview, the Qatari Prime Minister described Netanyahu as a "war criminal" in light of the Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip, stating that what is being committed there constitutes war crimes, and that the Israeli Prime Minister bears responsibility for them.
In another context, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said that Qatar has repeatedly anticipated and warned of the repercussions of the war, pointing out that its effects are not limited to Iran and the region, but have extended to the global economy.
He explained that Qatar has made diplomatic efforts in coordination with the U.S. administration to reach an agreement between the United States and Iran, affirming Doha's continued push for diplomacy and its role as a mediator in pursuit of peace, despite the complexities of the situation in the region.
He noted that playing the role of a mediator "has not been easy," but he emphasized that diplomacy behind closed doors remains the most effective way to achieve progress.
He said: "We are trying our best to provide the best advice to the U.S. government on how to reach a solution, as well as to the Iranians."
