The International Organization for Migration announced that the number of displaced people in Yemen has risen to 233,077 people since the start of the latest escalation in June, including more than 121,000 people in Taiz Governorate, amid international warnings of deteriorating humanitarian conditions and increasing risks facing civilians, especially women, children and the most vulnerable groups.

The organization's spokeswoman, Zoe Brennan, said during a press conference in Geneva that the wave of displacement included tens of thousands of families who were forced to leave their areas due to continuing confrontations, expressing serious concerns about protecting the displaced and providing their basic needs.

United Nations humanitarian organizations called for an end to the escalation and ensuring sustainable access for humanitarian aid to all those in need in Yemen, with a focus on Taiz Governorate, which faces deteriorating conditions as a result of the continued fighting and restrictions imposed on access.

For his part, World Health Organization spokesman, Tariq Yasarevic, warned of the deteriorating health situation in Taiz, noting that the city has become isolated, while hospitals face a severe shortage of medical supplies and fuel as the confrontations approach urban areas.

Yasarevic explained that 12 hospitals in the city of Taiz only have a stock of fuel sufficient for four days, in addition to a lack of oxygen and medicines, and the stock of surgical supplies has reached zero, which threatens the ability of health facilities to continue providing services to patients and injured people.

He pointed to the urgent need to provide energy and oxygen, especially for dialysis and intensive care patients, warning at the same time of increasing concerns about the spread of cholera in light of the deterioration of health services and the difficulty of delivering the necessary supplies.

The UN official stressed the need to ensure safe and sustainable access for humanitarian aid to Taiz and various parts of Yemen, to meet the needs of the displaced and support health facilities that are facing increasing pressure as the escalation continues.
