The Lebanese army announced today, Thursday, that it thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 245 kg of TNT, a highly explosive material, and 4 explosive devices from Syrian territory into Lebanese territory.
It clarified in a statement that this was the result of monitoring and surveillance operations at the northern and eastern borders.
The confiscated items also included 8 detonators and electric wires specific to the explosives.
The army added in its statement that the smugglers fled towards Syrian territory as soon as an army patrol arrived at the location.
The seized items have been handed over to the relevant authorities, and follow-up and coordination are underway to arrest those involved.
