In a surprise announcement, US First Lady Melania Trump revealed that she had succeeded in securing a local ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the stricken city of Oleshki, where residents are still stranded and suffering from food shortages.
Melania, who rarely takes official political positions, said in a statement on Friday, "Olishki is a city on the front line, and it is on the verge of disaster."
She also added, "It was absolutely clear that without my intervention, it would have been impossible to bring humanitarian aid into the city or evacuate the elderly from it."
Note that this is not the first time that Melania has intervened in “humanitarian diplomacy” files, as she had previously intervened and engaged in humanitarian issues related to the war in Ukraine, especially contributing to the reunification of Ukrainian children who were separated from their families due to the war. Its “humanitarian” efforts have already succeeded in facilitating the return of dozens of children from Russia to their families.
The city of Oleshki is located on the eastern side of the Dnipro River in the Ukrainian Kherson Province, and is under the control of Russian forces.
But the city had turned into something like a "death trap" amid a siege and a severe shortage of food, water, and medical supplies, which made it live on the brink of famine.
Meanwhile, Oleshki has recently attracted widespread international attention and intense humanitarian efforts to bring in humanitarian aid and facilitate the evacuation of civilians.
