- The Omani Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday the execution of a medical evacuation operation for ten members of the crew of a commercial ship that was targeted in the Gulf near the Musandam Governorate in the Sultanate. The ministry published a statement saying: "The Royal Air Force of Oman, in cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities, carried out a medical evacuation operation for (10) members of the crew of the commercial ship (ON PEACE) which flies the Panama flag."
The statement indicated that the evacuation operation came after the ship was "targeted 9 nautical miles northeast of Lima in the Musandam Governorate, resulting in a fire on board." The crew members were airlifted to Khasab Hospital in the Musandam Governorate, where they received the necessary medical care, according to the statement.
The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran continues to affect the situation in the Gulf, specifically the shipping traffic in the vital Strait of Hormuz. Qatar announced on Tuesday that mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are still ongoing, as Doha continues to play the role of mediator between the two conflicting countries.
