Meanwhile, Egyptian citizen Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud, 44 years old, who works as a driver and a colleague of the victims, revealed the details of the accident. He said that he was surprised when a Sudanese citizen fired bullets from a Kalashnikov rifle that he was in possession of, at three of his colleagues while they were doing their work in the market, which led to the death of two and the injury of the third, who was taken to the hospital and needed urgent surgical intervention.
For its part, Khartoum police arrested the accused, named Ibrahim Ali Abdullah Adam, who is 23 years old. According to Sudanese platforms, the accused said that he committed the crime out of revenge for his brother. He claimed that his brother was killed during raids targeting gold prospectors near the Egyptian-Sudanese border.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Monday evening, that it was following the incident with great interest, and that Minister Badr Abdel Ati had issued urgent assignments to the Egyptian ambassador in Sudan to quickly communicate with the Sudanese authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, to check on the health condition of the injured citizen, and to intensify coordination to take the necessary measures to transport the bodies of the two victims to the homeland as quickly as possible.
Nader Zaki, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also explained that the Egyptian ambassador to Sudan, Yasser Sorour, made immediate and intensive contacts with the relevant Sudanese authorities, who reported their success in arresting the perpetrator of the crime immediately after the incident occurred.
In the same context, the Governor of Khartoum visited the injured person and the victims to offer his condolences and check on the health condition of the injured citizen. The medical staff reported that the injured person urgently needs urgent surgery, while his condition is being monitored continuously in coordination with the Egyptian Embassy.
This came after some human rights organizations in Sudan escalated, noting that 72 Sudanese were killed in a raid on the border between Egypt and Sudan.
The Sudanese government said that the incident took place in a border area between the two countries, and that it had opened an investigation into it.
On the other hand, the Egyptian military spokesman, in an official statement, called for the necessity of obtaining information and news from approved official sources, ensuring accuracy and not being led by misleading rumors or foreign agendas that seek to destabilize and target the fraternal relations between Egypt and Sudan.
The military spokesman announced the launch of the third phase to combat illegal gold prospecting in the Eastern Desert, after delivering warning leaflets to criminal elements, as part of efforts to impose full sovereignty and protect the state’s capabilities and national wealth. He explained that these movements come as a continuation of the field efforts made to control the border areas and pursue networks that practice random and illegal mining, stressing that the campaign aims to protect national wealth and prevent any harm to the security of the country’s borders.
The military spokesman also stressed the depth of the historical, political and popular ties that bring together the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples, noting that the peaceful coexistence and care enjoyed by millions of Sudanese residing on Egyptian territory are evidence of the strength of these extended relations.
