Prince Hassan bin Talal expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the attack on a church in Karak Governorate, southern Jordan, which resulted in 9 deaths and dozens of injuries. Prince Hassan bin Talal wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday: “Terrorism is not only an attack on the security of the nation, but also an attack on the conscience of humanity and the values that unite us.
Whoever seeks to spread fear and division among Jordanians ignores that this country’s unity has been consolidated through brotherhood and solidarity.” Prince Hassan stressed that “our national unity is not the result of circumstance, but rather a legacy of sacrifice and shared responsibility, passed down through generations and preserved by positions.”
He continued: "Our unity and national cohesion will remain the most effective response to everyone who tries to undermine the nation's security and stability. We recall in this regard what my grandfather, the martyr and founding King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein, used to say: 'If one day God's horses are told not to ride, I wish they could flow with the Jordanian hand.'
Prince Hassan concluded by saying: “May God have mercy on the nation’s martyrs, and grant their families, our families and our loved ones, patience and solace. We share the afflicted with them, and we console each other. We are each other’s comfort and support, and we ask God for a speedy recovery for the injured.”
Earlier Saturday, the Jordanian authorities announced that the number of victims had risen to at least nine, after two people died from their injuries. In a press conference held on Friday afternoon, Jordanian Public Security announced that the “unknown” gunmen had not been arrested yet, adding that the shooting was a terrorist attack targeting Christians who were attending a funeral in the town of Hammoud.
King Abdullah II said that Jordan would respond "firmly" to those responsible for the "terrorist act." The king added: “Jordanian blood is precious, and we will strike with an iron fist anyone who insults this country,” according to the official Jordanian news agency (Petra).
King Abdullah had visited the injured at Prince Ali bin Al Hussein Hospital following the bloody attack.
