Amid ongoing mutual threats between Tehran and Washington, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf reiterated his country's positions regarding indirect negotiations with the United States and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The chief Iranian negotiator said today, Sunday, "Our positions are clear, and the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened unless our seven conditions are met according to the memorandum of understanding" that was signed last June.

He also hinted that the United States had presented new proposals to his country. He continued, saying: "The Americans, who say something else in the media, recently sent proposals through intermediaries," according to what was reported by the "Noor News" website.

In addition, Qalibaf considered that "Washington must realize that the phase of wasting time and imposing unilateral demands has ended," according to his statement.

Tehran presented last month a plan to halt hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, through which one-fifth of the world's oil and gas production passed before the war.

The plan, discussed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi through the Qatari mediator with Steve Biegun, the envoy of President Donald Trump, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, called for a ceasefire on all fronts for seven days, including in Lebanon, the release of frozen Iranian assets, lifting sanctions imposed on Iranian oil, and ending the U.S. naval blockade on ports as a prerequisite for opening this vital waterway.

However, Trump rejected that plan in a post on his account on the "Truth Social" platform last week.

Meanwhile, sources and informed officials indicated that the Trump administration wants to pressure the Iranian side to obtain further concessions on the nuclear issue.
