Rezaei pointed out during his meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev that the United States resorted to "siege" in military confrontation due to what he described as "desperation." He said that Trump is "sunk in a quagmire" and cannot negotiate or wage war.

Rezaei reiterated that the U.S. and Israeli attack on his country "violates all international laws," adding that Iran has "defended itself vigorously" in response to the war.

Rezaei's statements came as Tehran awaits an "official" U.S. response regarding an Iranian proposal that includes a seven-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, amid ongoing indirect communications between the two sides through intermediaries despite Trump's public rejection of this proposal.

In contrast, the American president reiterated that Iran will not be able to possess nuclear weapons, and that "the matter (the war) will end very soon."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that Qatari mediators conveyed ideas between Tehran and Washington, explaining that the mediators will present the proposal again to the American side before conveying the final response to Iran.

Indirect talks took place in recent days between American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on one side, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the other, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.

According to the Iranian proposal, the agreement includes a ceasefire on all fronts for seven days, including the Lebanese front, in addition to the release of frozen Iranian assets, lifting sanctions imposed on Iranian oil, and ending the American naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Meanwhile, Tehran links the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to the implementation of these conditions, at a time when the strait represents a key focal point in the crisis between Iran and the United States.
