A royal decree has been issued to extend the service of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal as an advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and as the Emir of the Makkah Region for an additional four years, thus continuing a long administrative and developmental journey associated with several projects and initiatives in the region.

The extension of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal's service is a continuation of his tenure as the Emir of the Makkah Region in two phases, having first been appointed as the Emir of the region in 2007, before taking on the role of Minister of Education in 2013, and then a royal decree was issued in January 2015 appointing him as an advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and as the Emir of the Makkah Region.

Throughout his tenure as the Emir of the Makkah Region, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal's name has been associated with the approach of "building the human being and developing the place," which has reflected on the follow-up of developmental and service projects in the region's governorates, in addition to focusing on the development of Makkah and the holy sites, and supporting development programs in Jeddah, Taif, and other governorates.

His efforts included following up on developmental files in the sectors of housing, transportation, services, education, and training, in addition to supporting initiatives aimed at providing job opportunities and qualifying young men and women for the labor market.

In the housing file, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal previously directed the formation of a working team that includes the emirate, the secretariats of the holy capital, Jeddah, and Taif, the branch of the Ministry of Housing, and several other entities, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of 50,000 housing units in the region as part of developmental housing initiatives.

During his tours, the governor witnessed the inauguration and follow-up of several developmental projects in the region's governorates, including municipal, service, educational, tourism, and investment projects, while meetings of the regional council, chaired by him, focused on developing services, improving transportation, enhancing governorates, and fostering community entrepreneurship.

Development efforts extended to the governorates and centers affiliated with the region, including the development project in the Al-Bayda center, which included charitable housing and model villages aimed at providing housing and improving the living environment, in addition to qualifying the center's youth and creating job opportunities for them, with the project targeting the provision of 800 housing units upon completion of its phases.

In Al-Qunfudhah, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal inaugurated a housing project that includes 593 housing units, along with schools, mosques, service facilities, parks, playgrounds for children, and commercial services.

Prince Khalid Al-Faisal is known for his extensive administrative experience in the Kingdom, having begun his career as the director of youth welfare in 1967, then assuming the governorship of the Asir region in 1971 and continuing in that role until 2007, before moving to the governorship of the Makkah region.

In addition to his administrative work, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal is known for his interest in culture, literature, and the arts. He contributed to the establishment and support of several cultural initiatives and institutions, including the Abha Cultural Prize, the Arab Thought Foundation, and Al-Faisal Magazine. He also adopted the Makkah Cultural Forum and the Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Institute for Moderation, and he chairs the King Faisal Prize Authority.

In 2019, he was awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, in recognition of his efforts and services to the nation.
