The Popular Mobilization Forces respond to news of Faleh Al-Fayyad's candidacy as Vice President of Iraq

The Popular Mobilization Forces Authority in Iraq commented on the circulating news that the head of the authority, Faleh Al-Fayyad, was nominated for the position of Vice President of the Republic. The Popular Mobilization Authority confirmed in a statement, on Sunday evening, that “this news is baseless, and that Al-Fayyad continues to perform his duties as head of the Popular Mobilization Authority,” according to what was reported by the Iraqi News Agency, “INA.”

The authority said in its statement that it “denies the news circulating through some social media platforms and suspicious media outlets regarding the nomination of the head of the authority, Faleh Al-Fayad, for the position of Vice President of the Republic.” The Popular Mobilization Forces indicated its "intent to take the necessary legal measures against those who promote this misleading news." Last Thursday, the "coordinating framework", which includes the parties winning the largest number of seats in the Iraqi parliament, announced the completion of the government formation headed by Ali al-Zaidi, and considered it an important step to enhance political stability and activate state institutions.

Government positions in Iraq are divided according to the sectarian quota system. One of the leaders of the Shiite sect is assigned to head the government, while the presidency of Parliament goes to the Sunnis, and a Kurdish figure assumes the presidency of the republic.
