For the 18th day in a row, Operation “Yemen Dawn” continues to achieve field progress on several fronts, as Yemeni government forces continue to intensify their operations against the Houthi militia. The Yemeni forces are continuing to expand their military pressure in Taiz, the northern fronts, and western Marib, through air and artillery attacks and sniper operations targeting Houthi positions, gatherings, and reinforcements, and limiting their ability to maneuver and redistribute their forces, amid the militia’s continued attempts to regain positions it lost on the battle fronts.
The humanitarian situation is worsening in the Yemeni governorate of Taiz, with the continuation of the siege imposed on it by the Houthi militia and the escalation of attacks targeting residential neighborhoods, at a time when bombing and sniper attacks resulted in the killing of 9 civilians and the injury of 42 others within one week.
The Siege Affairs Office in Taiz Governorate documented 51 civilians killed and wounded during the period from October 14 to 20, including 6 women and 3 men who were killed, while the 42 casualties were distributed among 12 male and female children, 12 women, and 18 men.
Most of the victims fell as a result of the bombing that targeted neighborhoods and homes by members of the Houthi militia, while other injuries were recorded as a result of sniping, drones, and mines.
In parallel with the field escalation, the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, discussed with the head of the Political Affairs Department in the Office of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Roxana Bazarjan, the humanitarian and service repercussions of the siege imposed by the Houthi militia on the governorate.
Shamsan reviewed the restrictions imposed on the entry of basic supplies, most notably food, medicine, petroleum derivatives, and household gas, warning of their repercussions on the lives of residents and the continuation of basic services, including the work of hospitals, health facilities, and the water, electricity, public hygiene, and transportation sectors.
He called for intensifying international and humanitarian efforts and taking urgent steps to prevent the crisis from worsening and to ensure that food, medicine and fuel reach citizens free of restrictions and obstacles.
