Yemeni doctors in the diaspora have warned of the danger of the collapse of health services in Taiz Governorate, with medicines, intravenous solutions, medical supplies, and fuel on the verge of running out, calling for the lifting of obstacles to the arrival of humanitarian and medical supplies to the city, the opening of roads, and ensuring passage for patients, ambulances, and medical teams.
The doctors said, in a statement on Monday, that the recent warnings issued by the Yemeni Ministry of Health warn of the possibility of stopping emergency departments, surgical operations, intensive care, dialysis, and neonatal services, calling for urgent intervention to avoid a health and humanitarian catastrophe.
The statement condemned the continued siege imposed by the Houthi militia on the city of Taiz, closing roads and obstructing the arrival of basic supplies, stressing that endangering the lives of patients and depriving hospitals of the capabilities to continue their work is humanitarianly unacceptable, and contradicts the obligations imposed by international humanitarian law.
The doctors called on the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and international humanitarian and medical organizations to take urgent action to assess health needs, secure life-saving supplies, and establish a mechanism to ensure the continuation of basic medical services.
They also called for an end to attacks that threaten civilians, respect for the special protection of hospitals and health facilities and their workers, and to refrain from any practices that hinder the provision of medical care.
The statement affirmed the solidarity of the doctors with their colleagues and health workers in Taiz, calling on Yemeni medical personnel around the world to contribute to relief efforts and medical support in coordination with the competent humanitarian authorities, stressing that the lives of patients are not a pressure card in war, and that health care is a human right that cannot be denied.
In this context, Siaj Organization for Child Protection warned of an imminent humanitarian catastrophe threatening the lives of nearly half a million children inside the city of Taiz, as a result of the siege imposed by the Houthi militia on the city, and its intense targeting of residential neighborhoods with violent and indiscriminate bombing.
She said in a statement that the absolute siege imposed by the Houthi militia on the city of Taiz since the beginning of this October 2026 AD, and its control of the roads leading to the city of Taiz and the link between the governorate and other governorates, directly prevented the arrival of food supplies and medicines, and exacerbated the suffering of the city’s residents and the displaced.
The organization called on the international community to quickly provide life-saving aid through airdrops to the city and the besieged rural areas, estimated at about 2.8 million people, the majority of whom are children and women.
