Washington - Ofoq News - On Thursday evening, US President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling for him to be replaced by another leader capable of “making an agreement” with Russia.
This unprecedented criticism came in the wake of the recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy facilities, in violation of US directives.
"We told Zelensky: You can do whatever you want to Russia, but don't hurt the distilleries because it's a global problem," Trump told reporters. "So what does he do? He's going to hurt diesel fuel. He'd better stop there."
The US President continued to escalate his tone towards the Ukrainian leader, saying: “Do you know what I am proposing? I am proposing that they elect a new leader who is able to make deals, because he is able to make a lot of deals, but for some reason he never does.”
Trump concluded his statement with a strongly worded statement: “I believe it is time for Ukraine to get a new president.”
This criticism comes in light of widespread Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy facilities in recent weeks.
Among these attacks, Ukrainian forces attacked an oil refinery southeast of Moscow, which supplies about 40% of the Russian capital's energy needs. These attacks have raised concerns in Washington about their impact on global energy markets and rising oil prices.
