- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that "part of the difficulty in reaching an agreement with Iran lies in the fact that he does not know who is in charge," claiming that the country has been "left without leadership amid the war." Trump added to a crowd in Mobile, Alabama: "They have lost everything, including their leaders, by the way," describing what he deemed a "leadership vacuum in Tehran," alleging that "no one is willing to step up to run the country."
I don't know who - for the hell's sake - I should be dealing with. However, he insisted that the war "will end soon," saying: "But that war will end soon, one way or another."
These remarks came a day after Trump defended the prolonged war - which has far exceeded the initial timeline of 4 to 6 weeks he set - noting that the remaining efforts aim to ensure that Iran never possesses a nuclear weapon. Trump wrote in a post on his platform "Truth Social": "I have repeatedly stated that it would take between 4 to 6 weeks to eliminate the Iranian nuclear threat, and I accomplished that in one night, while the rest of the time is just a guarantee to keep things as they are."
