Washington - Afaq News - U.S. President Donald Trump has once again posted a picture of the Strait of Hormuz, labeling it "Trump Strait," shortly after an Iranian proposal to open the waterway within a week if the United States responds to conditions included in its new plan.
Trump posted the image of the Strait of Hormuz on his Truth Social platform early Saturday morning, referring to it as "Trump Strait" in the first public indication of his thoughts after the Iranian side proposed the new agreement and hinted that it might help Trump before the midterm elections.
Meanwhile, U.S. sources revealed that the United States informed Iran that it does not control the Strait of Hormuz and therefore cannot impose conditions regarding its reopening, while Tehran is awaiting a response from the U.S. president to the proposal.
The new plan presented by Iran stipulated the cessation of war on all fronts, lifting the naval blockade on Iranian ports, and releasing some frozen Iranian assets abroad, in exchange for Tehran's commitment to open the Strait of Hormuz.
However, U.S. officials hinted at the possibility of Trump rejecting that plan and resuming the war after the midterm elections.
Despite this, Iranian authorities are still awaiting an official American response. Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian confirmed during an interview with CBS that his country will adhere to all its commitments if the American side agrees to the 7-day offer.
The United States and Tehran had signed a memorandum of understanding in June as a precursor to ending the dispute, reopening the strait, and launching talks regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
However, the agreement collapsed shortly after, when Iranian forces fired on commercial ships in Hormuz for deviating from the designated route for crossing the waterway. In response, American forces carried out new airstrikes on Iranian sites and ships.
