Washington - Afaq News - US President Donald Trump stated that the individuals arrested by British authorities near Fairford Air Base in the UK were planning to cause "significant harm," following the announcement by British police of the detention of five men in connection with a security incident near the base.
The British anti-terrorism police announced that five men were arrested in the Wilford area near the Royal Air Force base at Fairford, after receiving a report about three suspicious vehicles believed to be heading towards the base.
The police clarified that the detainees were initially arrested on suspicion of offenses under the Explosive Substances Act, before being further detained on suspicion of preparing for a terrorist act under British terrorism law.
The anti-terrorism police stated that the investigation is still in its early stages, and the five men remain in custody, while security agencies continue to examine several vehicles in the area.
British authorities declared a "major incident" in the area, evacuating several residents and establishing a security cordon, while a specialized explosives team participated in examining the vehicles found near the incident site.
The Fairford base gains military significance due to its use by the U.S. Air Force, and its name has been associated in recent months with American operations related to the war with Iran.
