U.S. President Donald Trump wants to turn his luxury golf course in Florida into a resort dedicated to future U.S. presidents, similar to the historic Camp David resort, the White House announced on Wednesday.

If the project moves forward, the "Trump International" club in West Palm Beach, where the 80-year-old billionaire spends most weekends playing golf, will become an official retreat for his successors.

Trump: "It seems that all presidents play golf, and the military favors it for its extreme security and its two-minute distance from the airport, and I am sure they will call it Trump International" https://t.co/NUHYy9Bd1q

A White House official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity, "The U.S. government has submitted a request to explore the possibility of establishing a presidential resort at the +Trump International+ golf course in Palm Beach, dedicated to future presidents, to enable them to hold important meetings and benefit from the amenities provided by this world-class facility."

The official emphasized the presence of strict security measures at the stadium, especially after the conviction of one of the gunmen, Ryan Roth, for attempting to assassinate Trump in September 2024, stating, "The property is located just minutes from Donald J. Trump International Airport, away from high-rise buildings and residential homes (...) ."

He added: "These are essential features for any presidential resort."

Earlier this year, Trump named the airport located in West Palm Beach after himself.

The Washington Post reported that one of Trump's lawyers sent a letter to local officials in September, comparing the proposed future resort to Camp David, Windsor Castle in Britain, and the Élysée Palace in France.

Trump has only visited "Camp David" in Maryland a few times during his two presidential terms, preferring instead to spend holidays at his golf courses in Florida and New Jersey.
