US President Donald Trump revealed, on Monday, negotiations with Russia regarding Iran, stressing that the situation related to Tehran is going well, while he launched a sharp attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of obstructing efforts to end the war.
Trump said that Washington is negotiating with Moscow regarding the Iranian issue, considering that Russia has not done anything in Iran, and that this is a positive thing. He added that Russia can provide great assistance to Iran, indicating the importance of the Russian role in the developments of the confrontation with Tehran.
These statements are consistent with a position announced by Trump, on Sunday, on his “Truth Social” platform, when he said that Moscow provides limited support to Iran compared to what it is able to provide, stressing his desire for this situation to continue.
Regarding the Ukrainian file, Trump renewed his criticism of President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying that Ukraine is suffering great losses, and that its president is not helping to reach a solution that ends the war.
He added that Zelensky "does not know what he is talking about," urging him to listen to his advice.
The US President went on to say that it was time for Zelensky to allow someone else to lead the negotiations, accusing him of not cooperating to end the conflict.
He also claimed that Ukrainians hold Zelensky responsible for the killing of members of their family, without providing evidence to support this generalization.
Trump confirmed that he wants Russia and Ukraine to stop the war, noting that the United States provided significant aid to Kiev, but, as he put it, it did not get anything in return.
In another development, Trump suggested holding a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in China.
He said he believed the tripartite summit would be held on Chinese territory, without setting a final date for the meeting.
The Wall Street Journal revealed on Sunday that Putin proposed holding a tripartite summit next month to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. According to what Euronews reported from the newspaper, the proposal was raised during a call between Putin and Trump on October 9, with the possibility of holding the meeting being discussed on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, on November 18 and 19.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that there were discussions regarding the meeting, without reaching a final agreement on its holding or agenda.
Trump's statements were not limited to Russia and Ukraine, as he criticized French President Emmanuel Macron, considering that France is going through a very bad situation.
He said that he gave Macron a lot of advice, but he did not listen to it, explaining that he advised him to close the borders to migrants.
These statements come amid disagreements between Washington and a number of its European allies regarding dealing with Russia and the future of the Ukrainian war.
