Two people were killed when a three-story house collapsed in the Mahjoub area in the city of Mahalla al-Kubra in the Egyptian Gharbia Governorate, today, Sunday, while civil protection forces, security agencies, and ambulances moved to the site of the accident to deal with its repercussions.

The details of the incident are due to the security services receiving a report of the collapse of the house, which was built on an area estimated at approximately 35 square metres, so the rescue and civil protection forces moved to the site and began the work of removing the rubble and searching for people who might be present under the rubble.

According to reports published this afternoon, search efforts resulted in the recovery of the bodies of two people, while the concerned authorities continue to examine the site of the accident and determine its circumstances.

Press reports indicated that no previous demolition decisions had been issued regarding the house, and that the competent authorities are working to determine the causes of the collapse, while taking the necessary legal measures and notifying the Public Prosecution for investigation.

The incident comes at a time of renewed concerns about the safety of old properties, and the importance of engineering inspection of buildings and dealing with any indicators that may threaten their safety, in order to preserve the lives of residents and passers-by.
