A circulating video of "Houthi attacks with fission missiles"... What is its truth?

Social media accounts circulated a video clip claiming to show scenes of the Houthi group using “fission missiles” in Yemen. The video, which shows multiple massive explosions and plumes of smoke in a barren area, has garnered tens of thousands of views on the X platform alone.

The clip was accompanied by a misleading description that said: “Urgent now... The Houthi militia recently targeted troop gatherings in Ras Al-Ara with a number of fragmentation missiles. These forces were the last hope to liberate the city of Taiz from the Houthis.”

By dividing the video into still shots and using a reverse search, it was found that the video was first published on August 3. At the time, the US Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) website published, saying: “US B-2 Spirit stealth bombers, belonging to the 325th Weapons Squadron based at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, dropped munitions at the Nevada Test and Training Range on August 3, 2026.”

The website explained that the training took place at Nellis Air Force Base in the US state of Nevada. The circulation of the video coincides with reports of the Iranian-backed Houthi group launching attacks within the Al-Mudaraba District and the Ras Al-Ara area in Lahj Governorate, especially in the areas near Bab Al-Mandab.

Al-Mudaraba and Ras Al-Ara districts have been witnessing severe confrontations since Tuesday. This comes in the context of a broader escalation witnessed in the governorates of Taiz and Lahj, where the Yemeni government forces announced the recovery of areas that were under the control of the Houthis amid violent clashes, while the two sides exchanged accusations of launching missile attacks that resulted in deaths and injuries among civilians in the region.
