- Mohamed Salah and his teammates in Trabzonspor defeated Besiktas with a score of 0/2, at Senol Gunes Stadium, on Monday, as part of the matches of the eighth week of the Turkish League. Salah scored his goal in the 71st minute with a shot inside the box, reaching goal number 8 as the most scored player in the competition this season 2026/27, while the Egyptian star’s teammates in Trabzonspor reached point 16 in fourth place on the ranking ladder.

After the match, Trabzonspor published, through its account on the “X” platform, a composite photo of Mohamed Salah, showing him standing in the middle of a giant chessboard, surrounded by flying and falling chess pieces. The club commented, saying: “𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞,” meaning “checkmate,” which is a phrase that means the end of the chess match with the victory of the player who besieged his opponent’s king.

Trabzonspor's blog came after statements were attributed to Salah that he is a "big fan of chess."
