Abdul Rahman Al-Sayyid denies again the existence of family ties to the “Brotherhood”

- Abdul Rahman Al-Sayyed, the Democratic candidate for the Senate in the US state of Michigan, on Thursday, once again denied the allegations alleging the existence of links between him or his family members and the “Muslim Brotherhood.” Al-Sayed told reporters on Thursday: “As far as I know, no member of my family was a member of this organization. To assume something like this is pure madness.”

Al-Sayed - who may go down in history as the first Muslim elected to the Senate - faces repeated accusations from Republicans that he sympathizes with parties linked to “Islamic terrorism.” The most recent comments were made by Vice President J.D. Vance, during his election campaign in Monroe. These latest attacks come in the wake of the emergence of old tweets by Al-Sayed's sister (who is a parent) on the Internet, including a post dating back to 2012, in which she mentions that she had a "wonderful conversation with my mother about her activity in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 1970s, when she was a student at the university."

Al-Sayed explained that his parents separated when he was three years old, and that he had not seen his mother for many years. He said: “I do not know what my mother was doing in Egypt in the 1970s, but I want to delve deeper into the insinuation that lies at the heart of this question. The point of asking it is to suggest that I may have a dual loyalty, and that my complete loyalty is not to the constitution of this country. The truth is that there is nothing in my record - nothing at all - that can be relied upon to claim that I am not fully and 100% committed.” By the constitution.”

He added: "They want to talk about me or refer to my mother or my sister. I am running for public office, so judge me by my actions and work."
