After accusations against Ethiopia...an Egyptian statement regarding drone attacks in Sudan

Egypt condemned Sudanese installations and facilities being attacked by drones, and Khartoum accused Addis Ababa of being behind them. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Saturday: The Arab Republic of Egypt condemns the escalation of drone attacks against civilian and vital installations in Sudan, and the resulting civilian casualties and targeting of infrastructure, in flagrant violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, and affirms its complete rejection of all forms of violence targeting innocents.

The Ministry stressed in a statement "the need to commit to protecting civilians and avoiding exposing them to the dangers of military operations." Egypt stressed "the importance of stopping the flow of weapons through Sudan's neighboring countries to the Rapid Support Militia," renewing its "full support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the necessity of preserving its national institutions, and the importance of neighboring countries respecting Sudan's sovereignty and security and not interfering in its internal affairs."

Egypt called for "intensifying regional and international efforts to reach a ceasefire, ensure the access of humanitarian aid, and create appropriate conditions to reach a comprehensive political settlement that ends the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people." Earlier Saturday, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Ethiopia of launching drone attacks on many Sudanese installations and facilities, stressing Sudan’s right to respond to any aggression.

She said that she informed her international diplomatic missions of these attacks, according to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA). The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muawiyah Othman, said that the attacks had escalated in recent months and “targeted the country’s infrastructure and vital facilities, especially electricity production facilities, water stations, schools, hospitals, and gas stations, and resulted in the death and injury of hundreds.”

The Sudanese official described these attacks as “an aggression against Sudan,” noting that they come within the framework of a “proxy war” carried out by Ethiopia on behalf of parties and countries present in the region...”, pointing to the use of the rebel militia as an arm in this aggression,” according to his description. He pointed out that "the Assa base inside Ethiopian territory has become a center for supplying the rebel militia with weapons and equipment, and facilitating the crossing of foreign fighters and mercenaries participating in the war against Sudan," stressing that the most dangerous thing is the use of Ethiopian bases and territory as a launching pad for launching drone attacks on the country, according to what SUNA reported.
