- Alaa Mubarak, the son of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, spoke on Friday about the anniversary of the October War, paying tribute to the members of the Egyptian armed forces and recalling his late father in a post he shared on this occasion along with a video clip. Alaa Mubarak said in a post on his account on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter): "On the anniversary of the glorious October War, I extend my salute and respect to the heroes of our brave armed forces who wrote with their pure blood and heroic sacrifices the greatest national epic in modern times, restoring dignity and land to the nation."
Alaa Mubarak added: "May God forgive you, Mubarak, and bless your resting place, for your voice has not faded, nor has your face been forgotten, and your memory will not be erased from our hearts; it remains with us, and to God belongs eternity." This post by Alaa Mubarak comes days before the anniversary of the October 6, 1973 War, which witnessed the crossing of Egyptian forces over the Suez Canal and the beginning of military operations against Israeli forces in the Sinai Peninsula.
Hosni Mubarak, who served as President of Egypt from 1981 to 2011, was the commander of the Egyptian Air Force during the October War in 1973, before becoming President following the late President Anwar Sadat. Hosni Mubarak passed away in February 2020 at the age of 91, and a military funeral was held for him in Cairo, attended by several senior officials and prominent Egyptian figures.
