Following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement rejecting the Iranian seven-day proposal, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pisent confirmed that Washington is continuing to pressure the Iranian regime by targeting the financial and aviation sectors and urging other countries to take similar actions.

Pisent also announced, in a post on his account on the "X" platform on Sunday, that Washington has sent teams around the world to engage with governments and urge them to take action against the Iranian regime, considering that "these efforts have borne fruit."

He also stated: "Following the launch of the 'Economically Outcast' operation, the U.S. Treasury Department imposed specific financial measures targeting banks and aviation service providers, and under my direction, teams were sent around the world to engage with countries and urge them to take action against the Iranian regime," noting that Turkey and Oman have announced the suspension of flights from "Mahan Air" to their territories, while the UAE has halted all flights from Iranian airlines.

Pisent also pointed out that the Iranian leadership has acknowledged the economic repercussions of the war, amid a decline in the value of the Iranian rial to record levels, adding: "We will continue to work, as there is still more to be done to prevent Tehran from carrying out its terrorist agenda," as he put it.

Bissent's statements came at a time when the U.S. administration is intensifying its use of economic pressure tools on Iran, alongside military and diplomatic pressures related to the war.

Trump had rejected an Iranian proposal to halt attacks for seven days, while Washington seeks to use sanctions and financial measures to pressure Tehran into making concessions regarding the course of the war. In contrast, Tehran is offering diplomatic initiatives to alleviate economic pressures, while the Iranian currency continues to decline under the weight of sanctions and war-related turmoil.

The repercussions of the new U.S. sanctions on the Iranian aviation sector are quickly becoming apparent, as countries, airports, and airlines rushed to reconsider their dealings with Iranian carriers for fear of facing secondary sanctions from Washington, leading to the suspension and cancellation of several international flights and disrupting the Iranian air transport network.

Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian acknowledged the painful repercussions of the sanctions in a speech this week before the United Nations General Assembly, but he affirmed that his country will withstand the pressures. He said: "Sanctions will only increase the resistance of the Iranian people. We will never bow our heads or kneel."

The U.S. Treasury Secretary confirmed that Iranian airlines will face extensive restrictions on their operations worldwide starting September 23, amid threats of secondary sanctions against service providers that deal with them.

Several countries, including the UAE, Oman, Iraq, as well as Azerbaijan and Georgia, later announced the suspension of receiving Iranian aircraft.
