American officials revealed that the army is preparing military options to resume large-scale combat operations against Iran, according to American officials.
The sources said that the US military has drawn up plans to target Iran's arsenal of drones and missiles, in addition to energy facilities and other military sites, in conjunction with a large military build-up in the region that will see the presence of 3 US aircraft carriers in the Middle East in the coming weeks, according to what the New York Times reported on Thursday.
Officials also revealed that during the past months, the National Security Team and the Pentagon presented 5 proposals to launch major military operations against Iran or the Houthi militia supported by Tehran in Yemen.
In the context of continuing to consider military options, senior national security officials, led by Vice President J.D. Vance, during a meeting held last Friday at Camp David, discussed new plans for possible strikes against Iran.
The current plan revolves around a short and intense military campaign that will last about 3 days, and focuses on targeting Iranian missiles and drones, a large part of which the Revolutionary Guard has rebuilt since the early stages of the war.
The list of potential targets also includes Iranian energy facilities and command centers of the Revolutionary Guard.
While diplomatic contacts continue through mediators, American officials believe that there is limited progress in the discussions.
But the main dispute still revolves around the Iranian nuclear file, as Washington seeks first to reach an agreement on Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, while Iranian negotiators insist on postponing this issue until the final stage of any negotiation.
