An eyewitness narrated the details of the shooting incident that targeted a church in the town of Hammoud in Karak Governorate, southern Jordan, noting that two gunmen got out of a pickup truck and opened fire on those attending in front of the church, resulting in deaths and injuries.
Witness William Halsa said that those present were participating in prayer for a deceased woman - his cousin - and a number of them were standing outside the church, when a pickup truck full of ammunition stopped near them, and two people got out and began shooting at those present and at the church windows, while those present tried to flee and save themselves.
He also added that the shooting continued for about four minutes, targeting people in front of the Hammoud Church and at its gate, explaining that he saw one of the gunmen wearing a “dishdasha” and reloading his weapon whenever his ammunition ran out.
Also, another eyewitness, Khaled Burqan, spoke to Al Arabiya about the details of the attack, and said, “Two people in an unidentified car, one of them carrying a pistol and the other carrying a Kalashnikov, and the shooting was random at the Halsa family in the church.”
Burgan described the incident as “a massacre that has never occurred in the history of Karak Governorate,” noting that they did not know the identity of the attackers.
He pointed out that the number of people around and inside the church ranged between 150 and 200 people, pointing out that the victims were elderly, and their ages ranged between 50 and 70 years, while a large number of people were injured, some of whom were in critical condition.
Meanwhile, a security source reported that at least seven people were killed and about ten others were injured, including those seriously injured, as a result of the shooting inside the church in Karak Governorate, located about 118 kilometers south of the capital, Amman, according to what was reported by the official Jordanian television.
Jordanian Public Security also confirmed that the shooters in Karak are being pursued, warning against circulating any information about the incident and adhering to the official statements issued on a regular basis, under penalty of legal accountability.
