Jolie commented in a post on her Instagram account today, Sunday, writing: "You can now open Google Earth and see what happened in Gaza.. entire neighborhoods have turned to rubble. Homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, water and sewage networks, and the infrastructure that residents relied on for survival have suffered severe damage or have been completely destroyed.",
The actress and refugee rights activist added that "a satellite analysis conducted by the United Nations showed that as of June 16, 2026, 82% of buildings in Gaza were damaged. It is estimated that about two-thirds of the buildings were completely destroyed."
Additionally, she pointed out that "as winter approaches, 1.98 million people, or 94% of Gaza's population, need assistance for shelter and basic materials, while humanitarian aid and shelter materials continue to face restrictions and delays in reaching them.",
She considered that Google Earth clearly displayed the extent of the physical destruction, but "what it cannot show is the meaning of living amidst this destruction, what happened to the families who lost their members, and what life looks like for the survivors."
She concluded by emphasizing that "people need shelter before winter arrives," stressing the importance of delivering aid and medical supplies to hospitals.
It is worth noting that Jolie, who previously served as the UN Special Envoy for Refugees, has condemned the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza, highlighting the suffering of Palestinians in the devastated enclave, which is deprived of the most basic necessities of life, while Israel continues to obstruct the entry of aid despite an agreement on a ceasefire since last October.
