Jerusalem - Ofoq News - The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, affiliated with the Al-Quds Committee headed by Moroccan King Mohammed VI, provided emergency aid to the Arab Orthodox Charitable Shelter Association for the sick and people with mobility disabilities in the town of Al-Eizariya, east of Jerusalem, with support from the Moroccan Association for Reconstruction in Palestine.
The aid included food supplies, cleaning and sterilization materials, to support the association in meeting the basic needs of its residents and ensuring the continuation of the care services provided to them.
The institution includes 46 inmates with complex mental and physical disabilities, providing them with round-the-clock care. Most of them come from low-income families, and their contributions cover only a percentage ranging between 2% and 4% of the costs of care, which makes the institution highly dependent on aid and donations to secure their needs.
The Foundation is facing a financial crisis that has worsened since October 7, 2023, due to the decline in donations and support it was receiving from the Ministry of Social Development, in light of the financial crisis that the Palestinian government is suffering from, which has been reflected in its ability to provide operational needs, including food, medicine, and hygiene materials.
The director of the Jerusalem Governor's Office in the town of Al-Eizariya and the towns southeast of Jerusalem, Amani Qurei, said that the aid provided by the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency to the institution will contribute to helping it meet the basic needs of the inmates and continue providing its humanitarian services.
Qurei explained that the towns of southeastern Jerusalem are suffering from difficult political and economic conditions in light of the restrictions on movement imposed by the apartheid wall, noting that the institution’s limited resources make providing the necessary supplies to care for inmates an ongoing challenge.
She appreciated the response of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency to the organization’s needs within less than a week, stressing that the agency is a strategic partner of the Jerusalem Governorate in its programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening the steadfastness of Jerusalemites and supporting their institutions. On behalf of the Governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Ghaith, she thanked the Kingdom of Morocco and the Agency for their continued support, including initiatives directed to Jerusalemite citizens and farmers, the latest of which is the “Aouna” campaign.
For her part, the head of the Orthodox Charitable Shelter Association, Diana Mashhour, expressed her thanks to the Kingdom of Morocco and the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency for this aid, stressing that it arrived at a time when the organization was facing a severe shortage of basic materials, and contributed to alleviating its financial burden.
Mashhour explained that the institution provides about 300 meals a day to residents and employees, while some members of the nursing staff are forced to sleep inside due to the difficulty of movement and access in light of the barriers and closures.
She added that the aid would cover part of the organization's needs for about two months, according to consumption rates, allowing part of the budget to be directed to paying employee salaries, paying bills, and covering other expenses necessary to ensure the continuation of services.
In turn, the Foundation's Public Relations Officer, Manar Faraj, thanked the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency and the Kingdom of Morocco for providing aid, stressing its importance in supporting the Foundation and enabling it to continue its humanitarian mission in light of the difficult economic and social conditions.
It is noteworthy that this aid comes within the framework of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency’s programs aimed at supporting social institutions in and around Jerusalem, and enhancing their ability to continue providing services to the most needy groups. In early July 2026, the agency delivered a shipment of furniture and equipment to the orphanage at the Arab Institute in the town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem, which houses 52 orphans, within an educational institution that includes 650 students in the primary and secondary levels.
