The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority said on Wednesday that an oil tanker was hit by several projectiles in an incident 51 nautical miles north of the Qatari city of Al Shamal. The authority added that there were reports of injuries.
The authority said that the authorities are investigating the incident. The nationality of the tanker was not determined.
Data from companies specializing in analytics showed that the number of liquefied natural gas shipments crossing the Strait of Hormuz rose in September to the highest monthly level since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran, despite continued security concerns and uncertainty.
Standard & Poor's Global Energy said that a total of 19 shipments of liquefied natural gas crossed the vital waterway in September, including 13 shipments from Qatar and six shipments from the UAE. Kpler data shows a total of 21 shipments of liquefied natural gas exited through the Strait of Hormuz in September.
That compares with 15 shipments in June, when an agreement between the United States and Iran began to take effect, said Eric Yip, a senior analyst at Standard & Poor's.
He explained: “The transit movement of liquefied natural gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz accelerated in the second half of September, and if this trend continues during October, we may witness a recovery in total monthly transit to 25% of pre-war levels.”
