Washington - Ofoq News - The new White House spokeswoman, Katie Zakaria, appeared before reporters in Washington for the first time this week, but her first appearance sparked sharp criticism.
The press conference lasted only about fifteen minutes, during which she read prepared messages and answered only three questions. According to a CNN report, senior White House officials and advisors to President Donald Trump expressed their disappointment at the appearance. One described it as "extremely painful".
Another official asked: “Why did they send her there so quickly? There was no justification for putting her in front of reporters on her second day, unprepared.”
Zakaria, 41, was appointed last week to succeed Carolyn Leavitt, who left in August.
During the briefing, she read messages praising the administration's accomplishments for about eight minutes, then answered questions from reporters from Breitbart, Fx News and the Daily Mail. Minutes later, she announced the end of the briefing, despite attempts by other reporters to ask her questions. By comparison, Levitt typically held briefings that lasted about 45 minutes on average.
One of the most prominent moments was when a Daily Mail reporter asked her spokeswoman, Zakaria, how she could reconcile her new position with her family life, given that her husband and four children reside in California.
The speaker replied that she found it difficult to accept the idea of not being able to spend the evenings with her family, then she became confused and said: “So, my boss, excuse me, my husband,” before laughing at her slip of the tongue.
Another embarrassing situation occurred when a Fox News correspondent asked whether the United States had stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine. Zakaria did not answer directly, saying: “I will get back to you with an answer about that later.”
According to CNN, Trump himself asked Zakaria to host the briefing, after being impressed by her previous appearance on Fox News. Despite the criticism, the president praised it, saying: “I think it was very good.”
