Diplomatic sources reported to Al Arabiya/Al Hadath that Pakistan realizes that Iran must show more flexibility in the nuclear file.
He added that the discussions of Pakistani Army Commander Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran dealt with opening a new path for negotiations, pointing out that the main goal of Asim Munir’s meeting with Mohsen Rezaei was to reduce the escalation.
As for the Houthi file, the sources revealed to Al Arabiya/Al-Hadath that the discussions of the Pakistani army commander in Tehran dealt with the Houthi file and the escalation in the region, and pointed out that Asim Munir confirmed that Islamabad will not compromise on its national security, and that the Saudi file is of great importance.
Pakistan is considered a major mediator between the United States and Iran, as its previous mediation efforts led to the signing of an interim peace agreement in June, but the “Islamabad Memorandum” quickly faltered with renewed fighting between Iran and the United States a few weeks after its signing.
Mounir also met with the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf. An Iranian statement regarding the meeting indicated that the Iranian official confirmed that Washington will not be able to gain Tehran’s trust unless it meets the seven conditions it put forward last month to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Qalibaf said that Tehran “has no new words to say with America, and America cannot gain Iran’s trust except by implementing the seven conditions,” stressing that “threats and military movements cannot influence the strategic decisions of the Islamic Republic.”
Israel, the United States and other Western countries have long accused Iran of seeking to possess nuclear weapons, pointing out that it has enriched uranium to 60 percent, which is much higher than what is needed for civilian uses and closer to the 90 percent needed to make a weapon. Iran denies seeking to possess nuclear weapons.
