The Syrian Electricity Company announced on Wednesday that the Deir Ali, Nasiriyah, and Tishreen power generation stations have gone offline due to an explosion that occurred on the gas line at the Tishreen station in the Damascus countryside, without specifying the causes so far, which led to a halt in the gas supplies necessary for operating the stations.

The company stated via its Telegram channel that specialized teams are continuing to deal with the incident, noting that the shutdown of these stations will lead to a decrease in the amounts of generated electrical energy and an increase in power cuts temporarily, due to the shortage in available generation capacity. It added that updates regarding the status of the stations and the reality of electrical supply will be published successively.

For his part, the Director of the Media Department at the Ministry of Energy, Abdul Hamid Salat, stated in a statement to the official SANA agency that specialized teams managed to close the gas valves and isolate the damaged line at the Tishreen station.

Salat also confirmed that the teams are continuing to secure the site and monitor the fire until the remaining amount of gas inside the line is consumed after closing the valves, leading to its complete extinguishment, in preparation for the technical inspection of the explosion site.

In the same context, the Syrian Civil Defense announced the control of the fire that broke out in a gas pipeline at the Tishreen thermal station near Haran al-Awameed in the eastern countryside of Damascus, and the transition to the cooling process.

The Civil Defense told "SANA" that two injuries were recorded due to the fire, first aid was provided to them, and the injured were transferred to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed field hospital near the conference palace in the countryside of Damascus.

For his part, Minister of Energy Mohammad al-Bashir revealed that some gas lines and electricity cables were damaged as a result of the explosion at the thermal station.

Al-Bashir added to "Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath" that the causes of the explosion have not yet been determined.

It is noteworthy that the Dier Ali, Al-Nasiriya, and Tishreen stations are among the main generation stations linked to the electricity system in the countryside of Damascus, and they rely on fuel supplies coming through the gas transmission network, making the regular flow of gas a crucial factor in maintaining the readiness of the generation units and the stability of the produced energy quantities.
