Since July, fighting has escalated between the Houthis and the internationally recognized Yemeni government. Meanwhile, the militias advanced along the Red Sea coast of the country over a week ago, seizing the main coastal city of Al-Mokha and islands in the Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern tip of the Red Sea.
While Yemeni forces confirmed that they would redeploy, emphasizing their continued strikes and confrontations against the Houthis on all fronts.
The Yemeni government warned that the approach of the Houthis to Bab al-Mandab threatens international navigation.
Meanwhile, the Houthis announced last Saturday the death of 73 of their members, including 25 with military ranks, in the latest series of funeral announcements published by media affiliated with the militias, raising the number of their dead announced for burial since mid-July to 413.
