Highlights of the 78th Primetime Emmy Award Nominations

- The nominees for the 78th "Primetime Emmy Awards" were announced on Wednesday, featuring a range of new series and igniting fierce competition between stars Lisa Kudrow and Jean Smart for the award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Apple TV emerged as one of the major nominees, with its new series "Pluribus," "Margo’s Got Money Troubles," and "Widow’s Bay" achieving significant success.

The Emmy voters also continued to honor favorite series returning with new seasons, such as HBO Max's "The Pitt," which once again dominated the drama categories, garnering 25 nominations, the highest number for this edition of the 78th "Primetime Emmy Awards." Actress Zendaya and actor Colman Domingo were nominated for acting awards for their roles in the controversial third season of "Euphoria."

The competition for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series appears to be intense, with Lisa Kudrow leading the nominees for her role in "The Comeback" and Jean Smart for her role in "Hacks." Another notable highlight in the Best Comedy Series category is the strong performance of the horror-comedy series "Widow’s Bay," which received 19 nominations after achieving significant popularity on the Apple TV platform.

Despite a recent decline in popularity among viewers and critics, the series "The Bear" managed to secure a nomination for Best Comedy Series, and actress Ayo Edebiri was nominated for Best Actress for her performance in the series. The late director and actor Rob Reiner was nominated for Best Guest Actor for his role in the series. Actor Matthew Rhys was nominated in the limited series category for his role in "The Beast In Me," alongside his co-star Claire Danes, who received a similar nomination, while Rhys's wife, Keri Russell, was nominated for her role as a tough American ambassador in the drama series "The Diplomat" on Netflix.

Mariska Hargitay, star of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," will host the Emmy Awards ceremony, which will be broadcast live on Monday, September 14, on NBC and will be available for viewing on the Peacock platform.
