Dubai, United Arab Emirates - The topic of mental health is often accompanied by a stigma from society. This is one of the reasons that hinders individuals from seeking the help they need.
The Saudi CDC has published tips on how to deal with the stigma associated with mental illness, which include: Understand the mental disorder you are suffering from, and share what you have learned with others, as knowledge reduces stigma. Most mental health issues are treatable, so try to seek the necessary help from specialists. Do not let feelings of rejection become an obstacle that prevents you from engaging in your normal activities and favorite hobbies. Avoid overthinking what others say about your mental illness to prevent feelings of distress that may arise from it. Many patients have managed to overcome their mental illnesses and recover from them, so do not let stigma prevent you from receiving treatment. Do not allow stigma to push you towards isolation from society, and try to spend your time with people you trust who understand your mental state.
