After a video clip circulated on social media in Egypt in recent hours, a humanitarian act by a young man who managed to save a small child from falling from the balcony of a building in the Ard El-Lewa area in Giza Governorate has gone viral, as he moved in the last moments and was able to catch him before he hit the ground.
The video showed the child in a very dangerous position while on the balcony of the building, before one of the bystanders noticed his fall, and the young man rushed to try to save him, managing at the last moment to catch the child and embrace him, in a scene captured by the camera of one of the onlookers and widely shared by social media users.
After the video spread, Ahmed Ragab, the young man who managed to save the child, spoke to "Al Arabiya.net" and "Al Hadath.net", revealing the details of the moments he experienced while trying to save the child, and how a few moments turned into a situation he still remembers the details of until now.
Ahmed Ragab, the 25-year-old young man who saved the child from falling, said in a special statement to "Al Arabiya.net" and "Al Hadath.net": "I was standing in the street normally, and suddenly I was surprised to see a child pointing with his hand, and when I looked at him, I found him falling from above. I had no time to think, and all that came to my mind at that moment was to reach the child before he hit the ground, so I moved quickly and tried to catch him."
He added: "The child was 5 years old, and I learned that he was on the balcony of the second floor when he fell from it. Everything happened very quickly, and I didn't know if I would be able to reach him or not, but I moved instinctively because I couldn't stand and watch a child fall in front of my eyes without trying to save him."
He continued: "I was able to catch the child before he fell to the ground, and it was a very difficult moment because I was scared for him, and at the same time, I didn't know what would happen to me while trying to save him. After I managed to grab him, I felt as if my nerves were no longer in my body from the intensity of the stress and fear, and I didn't realize the magnitude of what had happened until the child was safe."
He explained: "At that moment, I didn't think that I might get injured, and I didn't think about anything other than saving the child. All I saw in front of me was a child falling, and I had to try to catch him. The seconds that passed from the moment he fell until I managed to reach him felt very long to me, as if time had stopped."
He pointed out that his reaction was instinctive, saying: "There was no time to think or assess the situation; I moved instinctively, and perhaps if I had stopped for a moment to think about the danger, I wouldn't have been able to reach him. Thank God I was able to catch him in time, and the most important thing for me is that the child was not harmed."
He added: "After the situation ended, I began to feel a state of extreme tension, as if my whole body was in shock from what had happened. At first, I didn't realize that I had managed to save him, and all I was thinking about was making sure the child was okay, and then I began to comprehend the seriousness of the moments we went through."
Ahmed Rajab confirmed that the scene will remain etched in his memory, saying: "Seeing the child fall was one of the hardest moments I have ever experienced, but thank God the ending was good, and I was able to be in the right place at the right time. I did not do it in search of anything, all I wanted was to save the child and prevent a disaster right before my eyes."
