- Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris commented on a post by Egyptian journalist Ibrahim Eissa, in which he talked about Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national football team and a player for Turkish club Trabzonspor. Journalist Ibrahim Eissa wrote in a post on his official account on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday evening: "Egypt has 120 million citizens, and before them, tens of millions for hundreds of years, has only given birth to Mohamed Salah."
He added: "Just like Taha Hussein is one, Umm Kulthum is one, Naguib Mahfouz is one. Mohamed Abdel Wahab is one, and anyone who does not recognize this universal truth should reconsider themselves or consult a doctor."
In response to Ibrahim Eissa's post, Naguib Sawiris wrote: "And Ibrahim Eissa is one." This came after a controversy arose regarding Mohamed Salah's departure from the Egyptian national team's camp before the match against South Sudan in the second round of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, responded to the exclusion of Mohamed Salah from the match against South Sudan, which took place on the latter's home ground last Tuesday. Hossam Hassan (60 years old) confirmed that Salah's absence was due to the "tartan" pitch, denying any disagreement with him.
Hossam Hassan said in a press conference on Monday: "Salah was indeed worried about being subjected to roughness on his knee. He asked me before the Angola match, when he was in Turkey, that his club's doctor (Trabzonspor) advised him not to play on artificial turf." He added: "Mohamed is one of the very important people in Egyptian and global football, so I, as the head coach, agreed to that. God willing, he will be ready for the upcoming matches."
Hossam Hassan continued: "We are keen on the safety of Mohamed Salah and all the players. We wished for his presence, but I have great confidence in all the players present."
