- Captain Smit Matchar, the Indian pilot who was injured in the "Fly Dubai" plane incident that occurred in the air on Wednesday, was transferred to the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, for treatment, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The Indian foreign ministry stated in a statement on Thursday: "Our ambassador to the UAE met with Captain Matchar in the hospital and checked on his health condition.
The ambassador also met earlier with his family and assured them of providing all possible support to ensure the captain's health and safety." Matchar had received initial treatment for his injuries in Saudi Arabia, where the plane - which was heading to Israel - had to make an emergency landing after the co-pilot attacked the Indian captain inside the cockpit, according to reports.
The Indian embassy in the UAE had previously stated on Thursday that Matchar is "in good health and recovering well." The embassy mentioned in a post on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter) that it "continues to coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure ongoing medical care and the captain's safety."
The Ufaq News network has contacted the Emirati authorities for a comment.
