India and Pakistan summoned senior diplomats from each side on Saturday following a border incident that occurred on Friday, as New Delhi rejected Islamabad's accusation that Indian forces killed unarmed Pakistani civilians, asserting that those involved in the incident illegally crossed the border into Indian territory. The Pakistani Foreign Ministry earlier stated that members of the Indian Border Security Force used "unjustified lethal force" against unarmed Pakistani civilians in the Bidian sector along the border yesterday, Friday.
The ministry stated in a statement, "Pakistan firmly rejects any attempt to portray the two individuals who lost their lives as 'intruders'." Pakistan announced that it summoned the Indian chargé d'affaires to lodge a protest regarding the incident and called for an "immediate, reliable, and transparent investigation." The Indian Foreign Ministry later rejected what it described as "baseless and motivated accusations," stating that it summoned the chargé d'affaires at the Pakistani High Commission to protest against the "continued facilitation of illegal infiltration across the border from Pakistan." The ministry stated that three individuals crossed into Indian territory in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab and continued to advance towards the border fence despite repeated warnings from Indian border guards to return to Pakistan. The ministry added, "Indian border guards were compelled to engage with them as they posed an imminent security threat." India stated that the incident reflects "a clear pattern of repeated movements across the border by armed drug gangs operating from Pakistan," urging Islamabad to investigate what it described as cross-border infiltration and drug trafficking activities.
India urged Pakistan to respect international borders, adhere to bilateral arrangements, and ensure that its forces prevent any unauthorized movements from its side. Relations between the two rival countries have been tense since the outbreak of a four-day war in 2025, the worst in decades, which was followed by an armed attack on tourists in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir that resulted in the deaths of 26 people. New Delhi accused Pakistan of supporting the attack, which Islamabad denied.
