- Najaf International Airport announced on Saturday the resumption of Iranian flights through the airport, after a halt due to the US sanctions imposed on Tehran. Najaf International Airport published the schedule of incoming and outgoing flights for Sunday on social media, indicating that "a number of Iranian flights are resuming after a stoppage that lasted several days."
It is expected that "the movement of Iranian flights will gradually and progressively increase in the coming days, according to the schedules of the airlines," according to a statement from Najaf International Airport. The airport had announced the suspension of Iranian flights on September 25, as part of the intensified US sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
At that time, the Iranian consulate in Najaf commented on the decision through its official page on the X platform, questioning: "Najaf Airport, the shrine of the first Imam of the Shiites, and the capital of their last Imams, is closed to the largest Shiite state in the world?!"
