- The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced on Friday that three Syrians and two Egyptians were arrested, stating that they "exploited a charitable project to collect in-kind donations and resell them, benefiting from the proceeds for their personal gain." The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior said in a statement via its official account on the "X" platform, formerly Twitter, on Friday: "The Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Administration of Criminal Investigations, was able to uncover the exploitation of a charitable project to collect in-kind donations and resell them for personal gain involving five suspects: three of Syrian nationality and two of Egyptian nationality, as part of ongoing security efforts to combat crimes."
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior stated in its announcement that "the investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigations Department of Jahra Governorate, represented by the Salibiya Investigations Office, revealed that a furniture transport company rented an online site and a phone belonging to one of the projects of a charitable association through one of its employees, without the knowledge of the association's members, and used them to receive donations of clothing, electronic devices, furniture, and food materials, after misleading the donors that they were designated to support the project and achieve its goals." The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior clarified that the accused were "receiving donations through a number of representatives, then seizing them and selling them in local markets, or exporting them abroad to benefit from their financial value, without directing them to the purposes for which they were collected."
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior continued: "It has been found that this activity is repeated under the umbrella of the charitable project, generating monthly profits estimated at around 60,000 dinars from the handling of those donations. We also reached the company's warehouse located in the Amghara area, and necessary measures have been taken regarding the seized items and to complete the procedures related to the incident."
