British authorities have released a dual British-Iranian national on bail after his arrest in connection with a security incident at the Fairford airbase in England, which is operated by the U.S.
The police's anti-terrorism unit stated in a statement that the 25-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in central London, and that police searched two properties in the British capital.
The police added in a statement, "The investigation into the circumstances of the events that occurred in Gloucestershire is ongoing."
Initially, five men, all British citizens in their twenties from London, were arrested early last Sunday on suspicion of involvement in offenses related to explosives and terrorism near the Fairford base of the Royal Air Force, which has been used by American bombers to carry out strikes on Iran.
The five suspects were later released on bail. British authorities linked the incident to Tehran.
Dozens of residents were evacuated from their homes near the base, as armed police and army bomb disposal experts moved into the rural area.
The police later stated that they found a quantity of highly flammable gasoline inside three small trucks connected to the five suspects, but they did not find any explosives.
The mystery deepened after British media reported that one of the initially arrested suspects was the one who alerted police to the incident. However, the police did not comment on these reports.
Washington also increased the ambiguity surrounding the incident by criticizing the release of the suspects and announcing the involvement of a hostile state at an early stage of the investigation.
