The name of sports media figure Medhat Shalaby has topped search engines in Egypt, coinciding with new developments in the case filed against him for allegedly defaming Mahmoud El Khatib, the chairman of Al Ahly Club.

The Economic Court has set a session for October 14, 2026, to consider the trial of Medhat Shalaby, following the referral of the case to the Economic Court for jurisdiction.

The case dates back to a complaint filed by the board of directors of Al Ahly Club against Medhat Shalaby, based on statements he made during his television program, which the club considered to be offensive to Mahmoud El Khatib and the club's entity.

According to the documents of the case, the complaint included accusations related to defamation and the publication of phrases deemed offensive by the complainant, while the case was transferred to the Economic Court after being reviewed by the relevant investigative authorities.

The Economic Court is scheduled to consider the case on October 14, in a session that will address the accusations against the sports media figure regarding the statements that are the subject of the complaint.

Medhat Shalaby denied intentionally offending Mahmoud El Khatib and insisted, according to reports from the investigations, that he did not intend to make statements that constitute a crime against the president of Al Ahly Club.

The court continues to review the case according to what is established in the documents and the trial procedures, without a final ruling being issued in it so far.
