Memoirs of Princess Diana's Brother and Claims About How Charles Appeared the Night She Died

- Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, mentioned in his upcoming memoir that King Charles told him - just days after her death - that they would "forget her soon," according to excerpts published by the Daily Mail on Wednesday. Spencer noted that Charles - who held the title of Prince of Wales at the time - exploded in anger during a phone call after Spencer expressed his opinion that his sister would not have wanted her sons, William and Harry, to participate in her funeral procession.

In new excerpts published by the Daily Mail on Thursday, new allegations emerged that Charles's tone of voice reflected a "giddy delight - akin to that of a lottery winner -" during his conversation with Spencer on the night Diana died. The excerpts from the book also showcase Spencer's perspective on the unhappy relationship between his sister and Charles, including allegations that she found a bracelet that her then-fiancé had bought for "Camilla," and later tried to call off the engagement.

The allegations also suggest that "Charles" referred to her as "chubby" or "fat" shortly after their engagement; a comment that struck Diana like a thunderbolt, as she was suffering from an eating disorder. It is worth noting that many of these stories have previously been reported by various biographers and media outlets.

Afaq News did not have access to the book - titled "Swan Song" - before its publication, but a spokesperson for the publishing house Penguin Random House confirmed to the network the accuracy of the excerpts attributed to it. The Daily Mail has obtained exclusive rights to publish excerpts from the book in a series that began on Thursday, describing the book as "explosive" (or containing "bombshell" details).

Buckingham Palace rejected the allegations made by Spencer on Wednesday; in a statement characterized by an unusually firm tone and conveying a direct reaction from the King, the palace hinted that Spencer's grief may have affected his judgment of matters, with a palace spokesperson stating: "While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty the King understands that the pain of losing a sibling can cloud one's judgment and color memories in ways that others may not perceive, even many years after such a loss." In response to an inquiry from Afaq News on Thursday regarding these latest excerpts, the palace stated that it "has nothing to add" to the statement issued on Wednesday.

It is worth mentioning that the late Princess of Wales passed away in August 1997 due to internal injuries resulting from a high-speed car accident in Paris, and her two sons - who were 15 and 12 years old at the time - walked in the funeral procession days later.
