The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Egypt has "categorically denied" what is being circulated on some social media pages and websites regarding changes in fuel prices, confirming that the prices being circulated and promoted as new prices to be applied are incorrect and not based on any official decision.
The ministry stated in a statement today, Sunday, that work continues with the current prices without any change, confirming that the committee formed to monitor the automatic pricing mechanism for petroleum products has not convened so far, and no decision or recommendation regarding the adjustment of fuel prices has been issued by it.
The ministry clarified that the non-convening of the committee to date categorically denies the validity of the new prices or percentage increases being published on social media, emphasizing that any updates or decisions regarding fuel prices will be officially announced by the ministry and the relevant authorities.
The ministry referred to its previous statement issued on September 24, 2026, in which it denied the validity of what has been circulated in this regard, reiterating its call not to be swayed by unverified information being circulated on social media platforms.
In this context, the ministry denied the rumors regarding a shortage of gas cylinders in some governorates, confirming that the gas supply system is operating normally and regularly, and that refineries are producing and supplying gas products normally, as well as the transportation and filling operations at filling factories are proceeding regularly.
The ministry confirmed that the stock of bulk gas allocated for filling gas cylinders is available within the filling factories, which are operating at full capacity according to market needs, and there are no indicators of a shortage in the available quantities.
It clarified that the distribution system for gas cylinders is operating regularly in various governorates, and the necessary quantities are being provided to meet citizens' needs, emphasizing the continuation of daily monitoring of the supply, production, and distribution situation to ensure the regular arrival of cylinders to different areas.
The Egyptian market is awaiting the regular meeting of the automatic pricing committee for petroleum products, amid expectations of a new adjustment in fuel prices, following the significant jump in global oil prices.
These expectations come at a time when the Egyptian economy is facing additional pressures from the depreciation of the pound to about 52 pounds against the dollar, which raises the cost of importing energy and petroleum products.
Attention is focused on the committee meeting amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have caused global energy costs to rise to high levels, in addition to the decline in domestic natural gas production in Egypt, leading to an expanding import gap and increased reliance on external energy sources to meet market needs.
