Investigations are continuing into the case of the Hezbollah explosives truck that was seized by the Lebanese security forces two weeks ago at the Dahr al-Baidar checkpoint in the Bekaa, eastern Lebanon, while the case has not been referred to the Judicial Council, as the Minister of Justice requested from the Council of Ministers last week, pending the end of the investigations.

A security source confirmed to Al-Arabiya.net/Al-Hadath.net, “The explosives truck set off from the city of Baalbek (eastern Lebanon) after filling its cargo of C4 and TNT from a warehouse, and then made its way toward the southern suburbs of Beirut.”

The source also explained, “The truck, a DODGE, took the highway from Baalbek to Dahr al-Baydar,” accompanying a car that was moving before it, with the aim of securing the route and field exploration. He pointed out, “When the explosives vehicle was stopped at the Dahr al-Baydar checkpoint, the escort vehicle had crossed the checkpoint toward the capital, Beirut, before its passengers disappeared from sight.”

In addition, the source revealed that when the explosives truck was stopped at the Dahr al-Baydar checkpoint, members of Hezbollah’s Security Coordination Committee quickly disabled the surveillance cameras on the road leading from the city of Baalbek towards Beirut, but the security services were able to obtain other cameras that the party was unable to disable.

The source indicated, “The investigations are now focusing on the technical examination of the cameras and extracting what can be useful from them, while also relying on communications data, in order to fully determine the identity of those who were in the car accompanying the truck.”

In its session last week, the Council of Ministers froze the Minister of Justice’s request to refer the explosives shipment file to the Judicial Council, as a result of political contacts led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who stressed the need to be patient and wait for judicial and security investigations.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced through one of its deputies that the truck belonged to it, and that its goal was to transport military equipment to fight the occupying Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, denying that its goal was to carry out assassinations inside Lebanon, as its opponents accused.

The party also demanded the return of the shipment and the explosives it contained, but the official Lebanese authorities refused to do so.

Accusing Hezbollah members of terrorism

While observers believed, based on previous experiences in Lebanon, that any measure that the Lebanese judiciary intends to take in the case of the Hezbollah explosives shipment should not be less than charging the detainees with terrorism and against everyone whom the investigation shows to be involved in this shipment, because Hezbollah violated the Council of Ministers’ decision last March (2026) to ban its military actions.
