On behalf of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman will deliver the annual royal speech to inaugurate the third year of the ninth session of the Shura Council on Wednesday.
For his part, the Chairman of the Shura Council, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al Sheikh, affirmed that this occasion embodies the attention the leadership gives to the council and its role in the national work journey, stating: "The annual royal speech represents a national reference that the Shura Council relies on in fulfilling its mission and serving the nation and citizens, with its contents outlining the state's directions and priorities."
He pointed out that the speech has gained a solid status over the years as a comprehensive national document that reviews the Kingdom's policies and directions, keeping pace with the rapid developmental transformations it is witnessing, and illuminating the council's paths in developing the legislative system and enhancing performance efficiency, contributing to achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and its future aspirations.
The Chairman of the Shura Council indicated that the council continued during the second year of the ninth session to perform its legislative and supervisory duties, as it held 46 sessions, during which it issued 555 decisions addressing the annual reports of government agencies, systems and regulations, and memorandums of understanding and cooperation, contributing to improving performance and supporting the comprehensive development journey in the Kingdom.
He explained that the specialized committees of the council played an active role in studying the topics presented to the council; during the past Shura year, they held 376 meetings, attended by 331 officials from relevant authorities, as part of discussing the topics and completing aspects of their study, and enhancing integration and coordination with government agencies, which enriches the council's work and raises the quality of its outputs.
He stated that the Shura Council, extending the international presence of the Kingdom and its influential position, recorded a remarkable activity in parliamentary diplomacy, through 135 parliamentary activities both internally and externally, which varied between participations, meetings, and visits, and contributed to strengthening relations with councils and parliaments, and opening wider horizons for cooperation and exchange of parliamentary experiences and practices.
He said: "The support that parliamentary diplomacy receives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the backing and empowerment of the Saudi Crown Prince, Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has enabled the council to expand its presence and partnerships in regional and international parliamentary forums and organizations, and to contribute effectively to addressing issues of common interest, serving the Kingdom's interests and reflecting its positions and orientations."
He emphasized that the Kingdom's presidency of the current session of the Arab Parliamentary Union and its hosting of its activities, under the patronage of King Salman, and with the support of the Saudi Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, embody the role that the Kingdom plays in supporting Arab joint action, and enhancing the effectiveness of parliamentary diplomacy as a pathway for rapprochement, consultation, and coordination of positions regarding Arab issues, and establishing dialogue and cooperation that supports the security, stability, and prosperity of the region.
