The UAE Attorney General, Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, ordered the formation of an investigative team from specialized public prosecution members to investigate the incident involving a Fly Dubai flight that was heading to Tel Aviv from Dubai International Airport and made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, and to verify its connection to "terrorist activity or purpose," according to the official Emirates News Agency on Thursday. The team began its work in coordination with the General Civil Aviation Authority and relevant authorities in the UAE, according to WAM.
The Attorney General in the UAE directed to "take the necessary measures to gather information and evidence, ascertain the facts of the incident, its circumstances, motives, and verify its connection to any terrorist activity or purpose, or the existence of prior planning or direction for it," according to WAM. The Attorney General noted that investigations are still ongoing and called for "avoiding speculation or circulating unreliable information regarding the incident before the competent authorities complete gathering and verifying the facts and not to preempt the results of the investigations, emphasizing the need to rely on information and data issued by official sources."
The agency reported that "the judicial authorities in the UAE are responsible for investigating the incident in accordance with the applicable legislation, considering that the aircraft is registered in the country and carries its flag, which entails the application of UAE law to crimes committed on board, even if they occur outside the territory of the state."
